PAID ADVERTISING GUIDE

How to measure cost per qualified lead

Learn the difference between leads, qualified opportunities and customers, with a worked example and a practical advertising reporting checklist.

Agree on what qualifies

A qualified lead meets business criteria you define before judging the campaign. A service company might require an in-area inquiry for a service it provides; a B2B business might require a relevant need and buying authority. Spam, duplicates and wrong-service inquiries should not silently count as qualified opportunities.

Use consistent spend and dates

Cost per qualified lead equals advertising spend divided by qualified leads. Keep platform media spend separate from management fees. If you also want a fully loaded cost, show it separately and label what is included. Apply the same reporting period and record when qualification happened.

A worked example—not a client result

Suppose a campaign spends $1,200 and receives 40 inquiries. Its media cost per inquiry is $30. If only 12 inquiries qualify, its media cost per qualified lead is $100. If three of those opportunities become customers, the media cost per acquired customer is $400. These are hypothetical numbers to explain the calculation, not Vozzali performance claims.

Connect website events to business records

A GA4 form event can show that a form was submitted; it does not prove the inquiry qualified or purchased. Use a lead identifier, campaign parameters and supported CRM records to connect stages where possible. Call tracking can add call-source evidence, but a call still needs an outcome or qualification decision.

Turn the report into an action

Review which campaigns generated qualified inquiries, which offers closed and which leads were not reached. Missing follow-up, incomplete CRM stages or longer sales cycles can change the interpretation. Explain attribution gaps and report unmatched sales separately rather than forcing a connection.
